Wine from the soils of the Lange!

Vinification and Storage

The winery of Collina Serraglilli is equipped with top of the line winemaking equipment and temperature is completely controlled. To ensure smooth operations, all vinification and storage are done on the ground floor, and no concentration reduction or reverse osmosis membranes are used, which could affect the nature and taste of the wines. The storage space includes small and medium-sized barrels, with red wines being aged mainly in barriques (225 liter capacity), tonneau (500 liter capacity), and 1000 liter barrels. All are made of oak from Allier, France. Traditional style Barbaresco wines are aged in 20 and 25 hectoliter barrels made of Slavonian and French Allier oak from the Republic of Croatia, while “Seragrilli” is aged in barriques and tonneaux.

Barricaia

There is a basement level where the Recchio family produced wine 100 years ago, where the “barricaia” (barrique cellar) is located. This is not only the best humidity and temperature for storing wine, but also protects the wood of the barriques and tonneau. This protection in the cellar prevents gaps from forming between the barrels and wine from leaking out. Barriques last only four years and are replaced at the end of their useful life. Although the cost of aging in barrels is enormous, it is worth it for the wonderful, high quality flavors it produces.

Since the end of the nineteenth century the land of Collina Serragrilli has been farmed by four generations of the same family. From the days when grapes were sold in vats, and wine in bulk in barrels loaded onto ox-drawn carts, the business has been passed down from father to son. Today it is run with integrity and enterprise by the latest generation of the Lequio family with the help of their husbands and in-laws, whose background is also in wine. Grandfather and great-grandfather were noted local vignerons who left behind vineyards of the highest quality, and the winery remains at the forefront of winegrowing in the area.

The Langhe and Roero Regions

The Roero region is one of the most generous regions in the world in terms of wine quality and diversity. The weather is one of the most important factors in determining the final result. The taste of the wine changes with the weather; each vintage is different and unrepeatable.

The topography of the valleys and hills creates different microclimates, and the distinct seasonal changes of the continental climate bring out the intense aromas of the grapes. The temperature differences between day and night during ripening increase the concentration of aromas in the skins, producing high quality wines that are structured, long-lived, and easy to drink.

Soils of the Lange District

The soils of the Lange area consist of clay and limestone, with bluish marl (mainly gray sediments with a mixture of clay and carbonate components) and tuff (volcanic ash). ), tuff (a light, porous rock formed by consolidation of volcanic ash), sand, and chalky solfiferi. These alternating layers give the vines the finesse and structure to produce wines of elegance.
