A Veneto Family Story

How the wine is made

Ornella Bellia carefully nurtures the grapes and matures them to their best potential in both iron and wooden barrels. Once harvested, the grape bunches are taken to the sorting area where they are separated by vineyard plot. Alcoholic fermentation and, depending on the type, malolactic fermentation, are then carried out to bring out the best qualities and typical characteristics of each grape variety. Constant stirring (batonage) on the lees floats the yeasts and enhances the wine’s structure and aromatic complexity. While the wine is laid down, a team of winemakers and engineers carefully analyze it to ensure that it has reached the proper stage of maturity before the final bottling stage.

Soil and Climate

The vineyards tailored in Spars Cordon, Guyot, and Silvoz have thin layers of currant (calcium carbonate) and mainly clay surface soils, both originating from alluvial deposits deposited by the nearby Livenza and Tagliamento rivers. These topographies have good water retention, high mineral content (potassium, calcium, magnesium, etc.), and a good balance of organic matter. The land of the Ornella Bellia winery is protected from the neighboring mountains, the climate is mild due to the sea breezes from the Adriatic Sea, and the flat terrain means that the vineyards are constantly exposed to the local winds. From the northeast, a fresh, dry wind, the bora, blows, and from the southeast, a warm, moist sirocco blows all year round. These winds blow mainly in the evening, cooling the temperatures at night and keeping the daytime temperatures constant. This wind helps ripen the perfect aromas, resulting in extremely elegant wines.
ORNELLA BELLIA is the story of my family, a story of love for wine and hospitality that spans three generations of people who have expressed their passion in a territory dedicated to excellence and made quality their life’s mission. For over half a century our family has pursued a single dream, to advance while staying faithful to tradition and the wines that over the years have been a symbol of our company’s success. We have always thought that producing wine means undertaking a lifelong project for ourselves and our children. The results of such a project come from our daily efforts and tenacity. Nature has transmitted to us the importance of patience and the pleasure of generosity and for this reason we intend to persevere, transforming our business and renewing our promise to seek quality in every detail. In our opinion, the best way to perceive the value of our wines is to understand the philosophy, intuitions, perceptions, knowledge and experiences that have led to their creation. We have understood that the strength of our wines lies above all in the soil, the microclimate and the vineyards.
